How to Choose a Socks Manufacturer or Supplier in the UAE

Search for socks manufacturers in the UAE and you will find four very different kinds of business using the same words. Some own knitting machines. Some print on blank socks. Some sell a thousand promotional products, and socks are one of them. And some, like us, are sock brands that run custom production from start to finish.

Each of them is the right choice for a certain kind of order. The trouble starts when you pick one for a job it was not built for. This guide explains the four types, which one fits your order, and ten questions that tell you exactly what you are buying before you pay. If you already know you want socks with your logo knitted in, you can go straight to our custom socks page.

The four kinds of supplier

1. Sock factories

They own the knitting machines. A factory is a good fit for very large, repeat runs of a design that is already final. You will usually need to arrive with finished artwork and exact specifications, and minimum orders tend to be higher. If the factory is overseas, add shipping time, customs paperwork and a time difference to every conversation.

2. Print shops

They print your artwork onto blank socks. Printing is quick for small quantities and handles photos well. The trade-off is that the design sits on or in the surface of the fabric rather than being part of it, so it wears differently from a knitted design.

3. Promotional gift companies

They sell hundreds of branded products, and socks are one line among pens, bags and bottles. They are handy when you want one invoice for a whole event kit. Ask who actually makes the socks, and whether the logo is knitted or printed.

4. Sock brands that run custom production

Specialists who handle the design, the sample, the production and the delivery for you. You get design help, a physical sample, lower minimums and one local contact. This is where Socks Up sits, and you can see how our custom socks in the UAE work from brief to delivery.

Which one fits your order?

  • A handful of photo socks for a birthday next week: a print shop.
  • Tens of thousands of pairs of a finished design every season: go direct to a factory.
  • A mixed kit of branded items for an event: a promotional gift company.
  • From 50 pairs per design of a knitted logo sock, with help getting the design right: a specialist sock brand like us.

10 questions to ask before you pay

1. Is the logo knitted into the sock or printed on it? This one answer decides how the sock looks after months of washing. Get it in writing.

2. Will we get a physical sample before production? A digital mock up is useful for checking the design and the colour match, but it is not a sample. You cannot judge feel, fit or how the yarns look together from a screen. We knit a real sample in about 3 working days, and the sample fee is credited against your order.

3. Is the minimum per design or per order? A low minimum can turn out to apply to the whole order rather than to each design. Ours is 50 pairs per design.

4. How are sizes and colourways quoted? With us, each size is produced as its own run, and quotes are per design and per colourway. A quote that ignores sizes tends to grow later.

5. How do you match our brand colours? Knitting uses real yarn, not ink, so ask how your colours are matched and when you get to see the match. We match your brand colours in cotton and polyester yarn and confirm the closest yarn match with you on the mock up, before we knit the sample.

6. What can't you make? A good supplier answers this one straight away. For us, not every grip colour or very complex design is possible, which is why we check every design before sampling.

7. Which sock types do you make? Ours are crew, quarter (also called half crew), ankle and kids sizes, including grip socks in a choice of more than five grip patterns. Woven labels are available as an extra.

8. What happens after we approve the sample? Ask for the production time in writing. Ours is 1 to 2 weeks after sample approval.

9. Who prepares the design for knitting? Turning a logo into a knitted design is a skill of its own. With us, design help is included.

10. Where do you deliver, and can you issue a VAT invoice? We deliver across the UAE only, so there is no import or customs paperwork on your side, and we issue a VAT invoice on request.

Red flags

  • You get a price before anyone asks about quantity, sizes or colours.
  • The only "sample" on offer is a mock up on a screen.
  • The answer to "knitted or printed?" is vague.
  • The minimum turns out to be per order, split across designs and sizes you did not plan for.
  • Every detail is possible, nothing needs checking, and no one shows you the colour match before the sample.

Where Socks Up fits, and where it does not

Socks Up is an Emirati sock brand from Abu Dhabi, founded in 2019, with more than 100,000 pairs sold. For custom orders we work like this:

  • Knitted only. We do not offer printed socks.
  • 50 pairs per design minimum.
  • Crew, quarter, ankle and kids sizes, including grip socks in a choice of more than five grip patterns.
  • Your brand colours matched in cotton and polyester yarn, with the closest match confirmed on the mock up before the sample.
  • Design help included.
  • Woven labels available as an extra.
  • A knitted sample in about 3 working days, with the sample fee credited against your order.
  • Production in 1 to 2 weeks after sample approval.
  • Delivery across the UAE, with a VAT invoice on request.

We are not the right fit if you need fewer than 50 pairs of a design, a photo printed on a sock, or delivery outside the UAE. And if what you need is a team gift rather than your own design, our ready-made company gift boxes come with a card that carries your logo.
